Building a stone spiral

In Damanhur, the use of stone spirals and labyrinths is based on a long history of research. The spirals are used for many purposes, amongst them the widening of our perception. Building a stone spiral is a powerful way of coming together, leaving a mark on Earth that allows us to discover new connections between ourselves and nature.

The spiral is one of the archetypal patterns of humanity. Its centripetal/centrifugal route indicates the double journey from life to death and death to life -- understood as the eternal transformation rather than the end of existence. The spiral connects the microcosmos with the macrocosmos; the helix of our DNA is a spiral as is our galaxy.

To walk a spiral is an opportunity to discover parts of ourselves we are not normally sensitive to and to rebalance our personal energies, drawing energies from air and earth; a meditation in movement, increasing physical and spiritual well-being.

Building a spiral also provides an opportunity for meditation. Touching the stones, moving them, placing them on the earth... makes each participant a protagonist in the transformation of a territory and its hidden energies. As the mineral element is known to "memorize" the frequencies with which it comes into contact with, every participant will touch each of the stones and intentionally leave a unique trace of vital frequency. The final result is a spiral path of dozens of meters (minimum 120 steps), actived by the effort and intention of each participant. Afterwards the work will be integrated in each person through various dynamic exercises and the use of the spiral.

At the end of the seminar, the spiral remains to be used freely. It may also be oriented to support specific research in the field of dreams, widening of the perceptions or developing sensitivity.

Damanhurian ambassador Crotalo Sesamo holds workshops on stone spirals around the world which are one part theoretical, regarding the workings of the spirals, and another part action, consisting of actually building a spiral. As part of this workshop, spirals have been built in many places including: Italy, U.S.A., Austria, Brazil and Norway.
